Andon-Reid Inn Bed and Breakfast is offering half-day and full day guided tours. Our tours actually begin the evening before the trip with a short “Meet the Guide” session, where you will learn what to expect including likely species, route, weather forecast and more. There will be a wine and hor d'oerves hour held for everyone.
Your guide, Don Hendershot, is a naturalist, freelance writer and biological consultant. His column “The Naturalist’s Corner” has appeared weekly in the Smoky Mountain News for more than a decade. Don is contracted with the USDA Forest Service to do bird-point surveys across the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests.
Tours kick-off early with breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Birders leave the Inn, promptly at 7:30 a.m. The Inn will provide snacks and drinks for the half-day tour and snacks, drinks and a brown-bag lunch for the full day trip. Half-day tours normally return to the Inn between 12 and 1 p.m. and full day tours generally return between 5 and 6 p.m. There will be refreshments and a chance to visit while tallying the day’s species upon returning to the Inn.
So if you are planning to visit Western North Carolina and searching for any particular bird species that occurs in the Mountains give this package a try. If you are a birder(s) with specific target species the Inn can help you create a package to fit your needs!
